Understand the basics

A BIG part of being a great real estate investor is understanding the basics of negotiation. Leading Australian property lawyer Rob Balanda would like to share with you two negotiation tips to keep in mind:

(A property lawyer for almost 28 years, Rob Balanda is highly respected throughout the real estate industry and the legal profession).

1. Have alternatives - this is simple, yet powerful!

Always have a number of legitimate alternatives in your negotiations. It gives you incredible power!

Remember, you don’t have to do THIS deal as there are plenty of others out there!

2. Know your stuff - do your best to find out all you can about the area you want to buy in, the investment property you are interested in and as much as possible about the other party in the negotiation.

In my opinion, negotiating is some of the highest paid work you’ll EVER do and I’ve found that one of the reasons why people become wealthy is that they are good negotiators. That doesn’t mean thay take advantage of other people. What it means is that through skilled negotiating tactics they achieve what they want, while giving the other party the result they want.
